Rights Cloud Glossary
An Agreement represents a license which typically has a start and end date and contains various rights and other usage constraints for the content being licensed.
A Party is an individual or company who may be a party to an Agreement (e.g. Talent or Licensor) or may simply be an individual or company related to another individual or company (e.g. an Agent).
An Asset is a record in Rights Cloud that represents and references a piece of licensed content which is typically stored elsewhere, and has rights and contributors.
A Contributor is a Party who is associated to a particular Asset (e.g. a Photographer who took a photo or a Model that is in a video). All Contributors are Parties, but not all Parties are Contributors.
A Project is an assignment of work that produces Assets (e.g. a photo shoot that produces photos, a film shoot that produces video, etc.). Projects (also sometimes referred to as a productions, jobs or assignments) are the originating source of an Asset. Projects are typically associated with Agreements, since Parties are typically hired for a particular project (e.g. photo shoot, etc.). Projects in Rights Cloud do not represent the final use of an Asset, for example the finished ad or brochure that has the asset in it (Use Ad groups to define these composites - see below for more info.)
A Campaign is a series of Ads which typically support a targeted marketing objective. Campaigns may also utilize Projects to track the creation of Assets that may be used in Ads (e.g. an Ad Campaign which may have multiple Photo Shoot projects associated with it to create the photos for the ads).
A Group is a assemblage of Assets, typically used for the purpose of clearing usage rights collectively.
A Collection is a type of Group used for the generic assembly of Assets, typically used as a “lightbox” or “cart” for collection of assets which can be reviewed as a whole or have Clearance performed on the entire collection.
A Composite Asset is a specific type of Group which is used to represent a compound product which is an assemblage of grouped Assets (e.g. a magazine article with a group of various photos)
An Ad is a specific type of Group which is used to represent an Advertisement made up of a number of grouped Assets and which has specific Ad related information that is captured (Ad type, AD_ID and placement timings). For example, a TV Spot might be stored as an “Ad” Group consisting of multiple video and music Assets, each with a particular start and end time within the Ad.
Rights are licensed Uses or authorized Territories granted by a Party on an Agreement. Rights can be granted on an Agreement or Project basis, e.g. A photographer licenses Print rights in the US as part of a master services agreement, but another Photographer licenses All rights to photos produced for a specific Billboard Photo Shoot project.
Usage Constraints are additional pieces of information which may indicate an additional consideration or action if an Asset is to be used, even if it has received a green light clearance on Uses and Territories. For example, an Asset may have the rights to be printed in the US and Europe, but if used in Europe the photographer’s agent must be notified. For another example, a photo of a minor has rights granted to be used in print worldwide, but if used, it cannot be used in conjunction with any alcohol advertising.
Additional Info are additional pieces of information which do not affect clearance or usage. For example, additional information on an agreement or party might include a categorization of the type of work, e.g. “Hand Model” vs. “Full Model.” Additional information on a photo Asset might capture the resolution or other attributes of the photo such as Black & White or Color.
